For nearly four decades, Computech Limited has quietly built a legacy as one of East Africa’s pioneering IT companies. The company’s story since its founding in 1987 is one of resilience, customer-centricity, and a deep-rooted belief in the power of people, partnerships, and purpose.
“We’ve grown from a two-man organisation to about 250 people today, but the one thing that’s remained constant is our commitment to customer service,” said Founder and Group CEO Hassan Popat during a chat on Friday, July 4. “We’ve always believed in exceeding expectations and building long-term relationships.”
That commitment was on full display on the same day at Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club, where Computech hosted its corporate partners for the inaugural ‘Golf for a Cause’ tournament — a celebration of its 38-year journey and a bold statement on the future of business.
“This wasn’t just an event. It was a statement,” said Marketing Manager Noel Cynthia. “As we looked at 38 years of business success, we wanted to celebrate with the people who’ve made that journey possible – our customers, partners, and community. We also wanted to give back in the process.”
Guided by the theme, Business Beyond Profit, the event brought together teams from top corporate organisations, including NCBA, Britam, I&M, Diamond Trust Bank (DTB), Co-op Bank, KCB, Kenya Power and Lighting Company, Airtel, Postbank, Huawei, Safaricom, and Absa Bank Kenya, not just to compete but to also contribute. The winning team, DTB, received Ksh500,000 to channel into their own CSR initiative, reinforcing Computech’s belief that success is most meaningful when it empowers others.
“From the corporates who showed up on the course in their own competition-branded gear, this was about aligning purpose and purpose,” Noel added. “Ours is a story of legacy, leadership, and responsibility — a story that comes to life through every swing, every handshake, and every conversation, making it incredibly powerful.”
Since inception, Computech has grown steadily into a regional powerhouse with operations in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Zambia. Its new expansion plans target Ethiopia, DRC, and Angola.
“We’re working on becoming a true Pan-African company, empowering our customers into innovations they believe in,” said Head of Growth Hussein Hussein. He continued: “As systems integrators, we are only as strong as our ecosystem — whether it’s our customers, our partners, or staff, we grow together.”
Hussein highlighted the team’s embrace of emerging technologies like cloud, automation, AI, and partnerships with local lens.
“We don’t just bring in technology because it’s available. We make sure it serves real purpose.”
For Chief Revenue Officer Dipak Galaiya, the event was also about relationships.
“Golf has always been more than sport. It is rich in collaboration and shared success,” he said, adding, “It brought together our most valued customers and partners and reflected our ethos – ‘Beyond profit.’ It’s about decades of mutual growth with real social impact and renewed hope for what lies ahead.”
Group Chief Revenue Officer Dipak Galaiya reflected on the milestone:
“It was a moment of fun and laughter, and purpose. The event captured the spirit of giving and doing good. But profit will always be about how you build a legacy.”
